Well this has not been a good day, I'm sorry to say. Lorne's surgery was very invasive and there are LOTS of stitches all over the place. Today they have to clean the surgical sites and that was not pleasant for anyone involved. We were supposed to try to get him to stand up today but that didn't happen. We'll try again tomorrow. Lorne is not used to many things that have become a part of his everyday life. For instance, resting, following doctors orders, watching endless episodes of CSI, trying to speak Spanish, not eating, lying in one position for hours on end, and the list goes on. I'm hoping tomorrow is a better day for him. His blood pressure was really low all day, around 80/45, it's finally starting to come back up.
He will start getting some fluid-ish nutrition tomorrow, he really hasn't been hungry yet. His insides are still waking up.
We are both pretty homesick at this point. We really miss the comforts of home, even though they do a good job of providing all the necessities here. There is even a WalMart down the street, although it's tough to find the same products we have here and noooobody speaks English! But they do have all the basics like toothpaste, mouthwash and such. There is also a Starbucks across the street for folks going through withdrawals.
Tomorrow is Sunday so a new crop of people will come in just after lunch. The significance of this is that we always get really good food for lunch and dinner when the new people come, and then again for breakfast the next morning. By good food I mean some kind of animal protein, like, say... FISH! And then we might get some eggs for breakfast on Monday morning. This is really an exciting time around here. We are all pretty sure they do this on purpose so as not to scare off the newbies too soon! Let them have a taste and think every night is gonna be like that first night and then BAM! Not so fast Tiger! Oh well, we've all been there. All I can say is enjoy it while you can Newbies! Cuz it's gonna be veggie surprise for dinner with a veggie soufflé for dessert for the rest of the week!
